Bible Reading: Genesis 8
Memory Verse: Genesis 8: 11
And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Today, there is a double dose coming out! Yup, a double dose. I hope you are excited for this. I am! I hope you are too! I want to begin by asking, “How was your day?” “Did you do something exciting or mind- boggling today?” if you did, please share. Hmm. Did I do something exciting today? Well, let’s see. I spoke to “new” people. These are people I have never interacted with before on campus. I was happy to do this. Did you put a smile on someone’s face as well? Share with us all!
This message is Part 29 of The Genesis Story. In today’s message we are looking at the different ways to communicate with God. Just like with humans, communication with God is very important. Though God knows what we are going through or how we are feeling, it is important to talk to Him or show Him how we are feeling.
Let’s explore the memory verse some more. From the memory verse, there is the use of symbolic representation. This is shown by the dove and the branch of olive leaves. Let’s have a look at them one by one. Before writing this message, I researched about the significant or the symbol of the dove. From my research, I found out that the dove signifies peace. Noah sent the dove as a peace offering to God. Not only did Noah send the peace offering for sending a raven before but also a peace offering to ask God to clear the waters and release them (Noah, his family and the animals) from the Ark. When you read the story about Noah’s time in the Ark, you realise that all forms of communication were used. The use of symbols was a way for Noah to tell God about His desperate situation; in a subtle way.
From my research, it showed me that the raven is a symbol of bad luck. When Noah sent the raven, the communication Noah had with God was that what He was doing was bad. Due to this, God did not clear the waters. It was as though His actions were being judged by God. Also, through the raven, Noah was telling God that He is a bad person. God kept them there (in the Ark) longer as a form of punishment because He knew that they were slowly growing tired of being in the Ark.
With the use of the dove, Noah was asking for a peace offering. He was asking God for forgiveness for sending the raven. Also, Noah sent the dove also to plead to God to release them from the Ark.
This is to show you and I that when we need God to do something for us, we could use a symbol to send the message to God. He understands, accepts and intercedes in our situation.
If you have read this message and you are interested in having a Father who loves you so much, then repeat this prayer with all the sincerity in your heart.
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.
Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;
Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.
Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.
I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!
I want to encourage you to continue following God. He is the best thing that can happen to you.
Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you.
