Bible Reading: Isaiah 7 (ESV)
Memory verse: Isaiah 7: 10-12
Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.”
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Today’s the last day of October! By God’s Grace, the eleventh month of the year is upon us! Wow! The year 2025 is coming to an end. Despite how you describe the year to be, God has been Faithful! He has protected, provided, and positioned us throughout the year! In other news, do you know what this means? Well, Christmas is almost HERE! Yes! Our favourite time of the year draws nearer and nearer. Do you enjoy celebrating the Christmas season as much as we do? What are your favourite reminders about Christmas? Do share your thoughts and opinions with us, in the comments section! We would love to read your responses! We love Christmas because we are reminded of God’s Love- He sent His Son to die on the cross to save us; allowing us to spend eternity with God in Heavenly places. Additionally, our Lead Creative, Sammie, celebrates her birthday during the festive season…
Well, we are back with another lesson of the Isaiah’s Truths series! Isaiah 7 has been a very insightful portion of scripture! Have you read the previous lessons following Isaiah 7? If you haven’t, I encourage you to spend the next 15 minutes reading lessons 30,31 and 32. You will surely learn a thing or two from these pieces. Today, we are exploring the interaction between king Ahaz and God. Are you ready for this piece? Let us get right into it…
Verse 10 begins with the word, “again”. At this point, there is a sense of frustration. This also communicates God’s love for His children. He still hangs on to the hope that we will embrace the warmth of His Love and rest in Him. He trusts that we will reach out to Him and choose Him every step of the way. This emotion is heavily communicated in the style of his communication- Ask a sign of the Lord your God. Imagine you are five years old once again, there is a big hole you have to jump over. You are scared and cry out to your parents for help. They, in turn, begin to encourage you to take that bold step. They tell us that you have the ability to jump and not get hurt. They explain to you that the hole is not as big as you perceive it to be. They may even take the step to show you how small the hole is. They patiently wait for you to make the ‘bold’ step. Even in their frustrations, they keep encouraging you and/or stretching their arms out to you- ready to catch you when you jump. A similar situation is happening in this verse. God is communicating in just a phrase, my Child, you can do it. I am here. You are bigger than this because I have given you all it takes to overcome this challenge. My arms are ready to embrace you. Just take that step! O House of David, you can do it! O House of David, take that bold step and rest in the assurance of God’s Mighty Power. Arise, O House of David!
King Ahaz’s response to God was quite interesting! Many of us would have reacted differently. We would have jumped at the call for a sign. When we are faced with a challenge, our fears and doubts crowd out God’s voice. He may have been speaking to us, but we cannot hear Him. In our state of desperation or longing, we cry out to God for a sign. At times, we just want to see a physical representation of God’s Word- again, we cry out for a sign from God. This is not to say that it is wrong to ask God for a sign. It is not wrong to do so. This is about the state of our heart and mind. Have you made the decision in your heart and mind to depend on God? Have you made the decision in your heart and mind to surrender to God? Have you made the decision in your heart and mind to seek God solely? Many times, we profess to have a heart filled with God’s Word and a mind focused on God, however, the reality is opposite to that…
The main question is, “O House of David, do you have Faith?” Do you know that God is the Only One with the Power and Authority to provide all that you need and want? Do you know that God is the Only One with the Power and Authority to set you free? Do you know that God is the Only One with the Power and Authority to make you a Victor? How do you act in response to knowing who God is? We have to act in response to this! How? House of David, celebrate the victory! House of David, rejoice for the Lord, your God and Father has done it. Depend on that Faith throughout the season! You might wonder, how do I rejoice? Well, hang on to His Word daily. Proclaim His Word daily. Surround yourself with an environment that invites the Holy Spirit always. Be intentional about your habits and speech. By doing this, you are giving God the opportunity to speak His Living Word into your life and into the situation you face. And… When He speaks, obey! That is key. O House of David, are you acting out your Faith? O House of David, why are you doubting God? Do you put the Lord to test? O House of David, are your foundations rooted in God’s Word? During difficult times, we can fall back and depend on His Word if your Faith is rooted in Him (as mentioned above). We have the strength to depend on His Word.
Like King Ahaz, would you let your Faith carry you? Or will you continue to be focused on the battle and ignore God’s voice? The latter is the default behaviour. As a Child of God, your response is to focus on Him solely. This is a sign of trust, communicating your total dependence on God. No matter the situation you face now, turn to God. Hang on to His Word. Listen for Him. Be obedient to all He says. O House of David, shift your gaze on to your Father now! He is speaking to you! O House of David, the battle is distracting. Why go through fear and anguish? Your Father has given you Power and Authority! Arise and Activate! O HOUSE OF DAVID…
Watch out for the next blog piece… as we continue explore Isaiah 7.
If this is your first-time hearing about Christ, or you have made the decision to make Him the center of your life, kindly say this prayer with all sincerity and truth.
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son, and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me of my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. You get to enjoy the freedom, salvation, and eternal life! Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is rejoicing on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board.
Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are,
1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word, day, and night, you will be prosperous and successful.
2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.
