The Genesis Story: Part 38- Be Blessed and be a Blessing!

Bible Reading: Genesis 12

Memory Verse: Genesis 12:2

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? How was your day? I just want to encourage you to take prayer seriously. Do not underestimate the power of a short prayer. That short prayers are what will prevent disaster from coming your way. That short prayer is what will activate your breakthrough. Each morning, as you go about your rounds, commit your day to God. It could be as short as, “Lord, I commit my day into your hands! Protect my going ins and my coming outs. Amen!” A prayer like this has helped so many people I know. It can work for you, you have to cultivate a prayer habit. Amen!

Today, we are going to continue from where we left off on the Genesis Story. The episode is the 38thin the Genesis Story. The 37thpart talked about Genesis 12 and verse 1, which talks about breaking free form self-influences and human- influences; in order to concentrate and do God’s will wholeheartedly.

We are looking at verse 2 today. In verse 2, God is telling us of our reward. You might ask why the reward? Well, God is blessing us for first of all obeying Him, by listening to the instructions He gave and also for working hard and diligently towards The Mission- spreading the Gospel to others. The first part of this blessing, God tells us that He will make us a great nation. Notice one spectacular thing about this phrase: great nation. Not only is God going to bless you, but He is going to bless your descendants inclusive. That is why the word nation is used. Your work for God is going to be felt for generations to come after you. There are so many examples of such in this world, for example, the Guinness, the Carnegie family, the Rockefeller family and many other families. These families have been successful and great for many generations. Why? It is because of the hard work and sacrifice of one man or woman; and God blessed their family and made them a great nation. Plus note that, no matter how small you think your work is for God, He sees, and He will bless you accordingly.

Before I move on, I want to make this fact known. Some of you might ask why we are referring Abrams’s blessings to ourselves? Abram was used to represent all Christians. He was a symbolic tool used by God to communicate with us. It happens this way because the human mind cannot comprehend just words. If the Bible was made up of direct words and no eye witness views, a lot of people would not believe it. Even with human evidence, a lot of people still doubt God, how much more without it. God used people’s accounts (with the backing of the Holy Spirit) so that the human mind can comprehend it. So that people would know that it is possible because the same thing has happened to a certain person.

The second part of the verse says, “And I will bless thee, and make thy name great...” This statement is directly connected to that of the first part of the verse. When God makes you a great nation, He blesses you. This blessing comes in the form of Divine Favor, Grace and Wisdom. With these three tools, God will help you acquire riches and fame (for His platform). When you acknowledge that these privileges are for Him and Him alone; He makes your name great. These riches and fame are a platform to continue the mission. To spread the Gospel to the world and to support Christian livelihood and businesses. All over the world, the people that are listened to, respected or have “power” are people with money. This is why God gives them to us so that we would have a say in the world. We have the attention of the whole world.

For many Christians, they end at this statement. When the riches and fame come, it gets into their heads and they deviate. They begin to think it is by their own will, however it is not. It is by God’s strength and His alone. All those who have followed this, are blessed more and more. If you were in that position, what would you do? I know it is easy now to say that we would focus on God, but is that really the case? Are your bodies weak? Are you like Peter who told Jesus wholeheartedly that he will never betray Him (Jesus) and yet did? Are you ready to put yourself aside and put God first? Are you ready to put your most valued thing aside? Your children aside? These are some very important questions we have to ask ourselves. And ask God to work on our character; the ability and importance of humility.

The last part of the verse says, “and thou shalt be a blessing.” This once again is related to the previous statement. It is a three-step blessing process. The final is that you will be a blessing. After the first 2 steps, God will use you to be a blessing or a point of hope for His sons and daughters. Now, not only are you being blessed, but you are blessing others. God will begin to use you to make impossible ways possible through the platforms he has given you and also through the forms of blessings. Hallelujah! What a wonderful God we serve! So generous and kind! There is no God like Him!

If you realise most of the things we have mentioned in this are in three folds. The first being the three- step blessing process and the three forms of blessing! These should show you the importance of the message. As it is in three folds just like God (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit). We are also made up of our body, mind and soul! Can you see the correlation? There is one correlation that I know you would be struggling to see. It is the correlation between us and the blessings.

Let us take the forms of the blessing: Divine Favour, Grace and Wisdom. Wisdom is with regards to your mind. God blesses your mind with wisdom. Grace is with the body. God blesses your body with Grace to do anything and everything. And lastly, Divine Favour with the soul. God blessings your soul with Favour to breakthrough and win battles. Hallelujah!

If this your first-time reading Sammie’s Daily Dose, or you want to know God personally, so that you too can be blessed and be a blessing to others, kindly pray this short prayer with all seriousness and with all sincerity.

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.

  2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.

I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!

God loves you and He wants the best for you! Keep on choosing God and you will never regret that decision!

  • Have a wonderful evening and let God inspire you!
