The Genesis Story: Part 48 - Would you choose GOD over Riches?

Bible Reading: Genesis 14

Memory Verse: Genesis 14: 22 – 24

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich’. I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me- to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.”

Good evening ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? How was your day today? Today we are going to continue the Genesis Story with Part 48. We are going to continue our in- depth study of Genesis 14; specifically, the topic: “Would you choose God over riches?”

Preluding to the verses we would be concentrating on, Abram was celebrated by the kings of Sodom and Sadem for helping restore their rightful kingdoms back. The kings offer Abram a reward for his service to their nations. In verses 22 to 24, we see that Abram does not accept any of the gifts given to him because of a promise He made to God when he decided to solely follow and commit to God’s will.

Before taking a closer look at the message God is conveying to us today, I have one question to ask you. “Have you kept your side of the promise?” This is a very important question you must answer. The day you gave your life to Christ; is the day that you made a promise to Him that you will keep Him has Lord over your life. It is the day you made the promise to follow His will and no one else’s will for your life. How would you describe your current position: have you kept the promise, or you have broken it?

From today ‘s reading, God is asking us what we would do when we are in a situation similar to that of Abram. Would you choose God, or you will choose riches? Today’s reading is a reminder of the types of trials that we will go through as Christians. He wants us to be ready at all times to make the decision to follow Him.

Today’s message is also a reminder to us that God blesses us with riches. He gives it to us when we are ready to handle it. We are not to rush into receiving the riches of this world. these riches can hurt us or even destroy us. Wait upon God’s time. He will bless you with so much riches; beyond what you have imagined.

Lastly, this message is to show that God does not share his victory with anyone. The kings wanted to reward Abram so that they can say that they had a part of Abram’s success. That was not going to happen under God’s watch. When He (God) gains a victory, He makes sure that the world recognizes Him and the wonderful miracles He does for His children; all to His glory. Hallelujah!

As I end today’s message, I would like to ask these two questions: “Would you choose God over riches?” or “Would you choose riches over God?” What would your answer be? Is it "yes" to God and "no" to riches or the other way around?

Make the decision to follow Christ, and with the help of the Holy Spirit you will be able to diligently follow Him. It is not an easy road, but it is a possible journey. Join this awesome journey! For what is a man to gain the world and yet loose his soul. Have a good night.

If you are reading Sammie’s Daily Dose for the first time or you have the strong urge to invite Christ into your hearts; kindly say this prayer with all sincerity in your heart.

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.

  2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.

I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!

  • Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
