The Genesis Story: Part 49- What Do You Accept From People?

Bible Reading: Genesis 14

Memory Verse: Genesis 14: 24

I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me- to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? How has your weekend been so far? Ready for today’s church service? Today’s message is Part 49 of the Genesis Story and we would be exploring the topic- “Acceptance of items from people.

This message is the final one under the Genesis chapter 14 study. In the story of Genesis 14, we have seen Abram defend some defeated some kingdoms on behalf of the kingdoms of Sodom, Gomorrah and other kingdoms. The kings of Sodom and Sadem want to give gifts to Abram, however, he refuses.

From this verse, God is telling us to be careful of the things we accept from people. Each day, we accept numerous of things from people. At times, people do not give gifts with the right intensions. Other times, they have good intentions at the beginning, but this later change to the opposite; due to several different reasons.

Gifts can be given as a point of contact or as a medium to harm you. In the case of the kings, they might have offered Abram those rewards with good intentions; just as Abram said, they could have said that they were the reason for Abram’s riches.

It is not easy to decipher the hearts and thoughts of people. Each day, you have to ask the Holy Spirit for direction on who to interact with and who you should not. The question you need to ask yourself is “What do you accept from people?”

God is also telling us that we should turn down things that jeopardize our relationship with Him. Whenever someone offers you anything and your conscience is not at peace, kindly decline it. Always remember to live a life for- Christ. This is because a life without Christ is no life at all. Do not compromise your relationship with God over physical things. He is faithful and just to supply all your needs. God bless you!

If you have read this message and have a strong conviction to give your life to Christ, kindly repeat this prayer with all the sincerity in your heart.

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family.  Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.

  2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.

I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!

  • Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
