The Genesis Story: Part 71- The Fear of God!

Bible Reading: Genesis 20

Memory Verse: Genesis 20: 8

Early the next morning Abimelech summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? We are drawing close to the end of a wonderful journey through Genesis 20 this week. What have you learnt so far? What message would you say has spoken to you very much this week? I would say that all of them have. Let us see what the Holy Spirit has prepared for us today.

Today, we are going to look at one of the characteristics of God. He is a fear-full God. Yup! Well to those who are against Him or against His will and even we as Christians. Let us take a look at verse 8 once again. The verse tells us that the officials of Abimelech were very much afraid after Abimelech told them all that had transpired in his dream.

In those times, the kings’ officials always included wise men. These wise men were men who followed stars and science. They usually interpret the king’s dreams and give solutions to unsolvable questions and problems that the king faces. They do this through all means possible; both the good and the bad.

In this case, the Bible said all of Abimelech’s officials were very much afraid. These included all of his wise men and all other officials. God instilled fear in them; to show of His power and to get them to do what was needed of them.

God instills fear in those against Him so that they may know how mighty and powerful He is. God instills fear in us, His children, so that we may not think that we live by our might. It is a way to make us humble. How does this happen you may ask? Life is a gift from God. There are a lot of people who take life for granted. They wake up every morning and they do not thank God for this gift. They live their lives as they please because they believe that their lives are in their hands.

Such people do not realize what they do until they lose someone close or important to them. This is the time that they realize that they do not have the power over life. That is why as Christians we are told to fear God. This is because He has the power to life. He can decide to take any time. We have to fear Him because everything we own, do and have is controlled by Him. Not only does He have the power, but He has the ultimate decision.

Christians fear the Lord! Live according to His will! Everything will be right for you! Hallelujah!

If you are reading this message and you feel convicted to or a strong urge to join God’s family; this is the time to do so. Kindly say this short prayer out loud with a lot of meaning.

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a
