Bible Reading: Genesis 28
Memory Verse: Genesis 28: 3
May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? Hope you had a great weekend? This week we would be going through Genesis 28. Today, we would be exploring the theme of becoming a community of peoples.
From the verse we are looking at, we see that Isaac told Jacob to follow certain instructions. And in following those instructions God will bless him and make him multiply into a community of peoples. This was the first time anyone had told Jacob of God’s plan for him- to become a community of peoples. God wanted Jacob to be a great nation. Jacob was the father of Israel, literally. Jacobs’ sons were the 12 tribes of Israel. He indeed became a great nation; having his children being the tribes of God’s nation/ God’s heart.
The Bible uses the word "peoples" because of the number and magnitude of people in this community. This will be people from far and wide who join this family. The word was a representation of the physical and spiritual magnitude of Israel. The word is used to show emphasis on the greatness and magnitude of the people.
There are a few things that struck me about Jacob’s character that made me understand why he (Jacob) was God’s choice. The first one was that he was obedient- to his parents. Throughout Genesis 27, we see that Jacob was very obedient to his mother. Whatever he was told to do. He did it. This goes to show us how important obedience to our parents are to God. Most of the time, we feel like our parents are nagging and complaining. However, learning to obey them and follow them is a replica of learning to obey God and follow His ways. This is a trait I will encourage everyone to have.
Secondly, Jacob was very firm. With the instance of the birth right, Jacob did not budge until Esau gave him the first-born birthright. Unlike Esau who was firm physically; he wasn’t mentally. It is evident that it is not always about the physical strength that you but the mental strength. Throughout the passages we would be looking at in the next few weeks, you would realize how this mental strength was a plus to Jacob. I would urge each and every single one of us not to rely on our physical strength but our mental strength. This is the type of strength that you would need (through trials) to keep your focus on God.
Lastly, Jacob was calm. The Bible told us that he was a man of the indoors. This meant that he was always quiet, calm and reserved. This is the attitude God wants us to have. God wants us to cast all our burdens on to Him and be stress-free. However, in reality, we (His children) do the opposite. Let us try and relax in all situations and believe that God is in control.
I believe these are three-character traits of Jacob; that made him the father of many nations. These are some of the character traits we must possess as Christians. This would distinguish us from the rest of the world; and show God that we are ready and able to be a blessing and bless others as well. Hallelujah! With these traits, God will give you a community of people as well.
The prayer below is for anyone who wants to come into God’s family and be redeemed. I urge you to pray this short prayer with all sincerity in your heart.
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.
Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;
Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.
Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.
I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!
Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!

Always remember to show love to everyone, as this is one of the most important commandments God left for us – “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In every situation, before you take a decision, remember WWJD (What Would Jesus Do). Shalom.
