Topic: Comparisons and Competitions!

Bible Reading: Genesis 30
Memory Verse: Genesis 30: 8
Then Rachel said, “I have had a great struggle with my sister, and I have won.”
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? I hope your week started off on a great note! Mine did! Were you excited and inspired by the previous message? I really was! I am overly excited to see what the Holy Spirit has in store for us today!
Let me be one of the first to wish you “Happy New Month!” I pray that in this month, God will manifest many things in your lives and that of your family. Amen.
Today, we would be looking at how Christians compare themselves to others and how Christians create competition due to these comparisons. I pray that you learn something from this. Let us get right into today’s message.
From the memory verse, we see that Rachel made the decision to let her servant sleep with Jacob for a child, because of her jealously of her sister. This drove her to compare herself and her situation to that of her sister; leading to a competition known (only) to Rachel. This is something I find common between Christians even today.
We prioritize these self- fueled conflicts that take our focus away from God. These competitions and comparisons are started by the enemy. As Christians, we claim that we are masters of our faith. However, we are easily moved to do things out of jealousy and comparisons with each other. Why is it that we are never satisfied with what we have? Why do we always look for something external to fill us?
Well, we do not allow God to fully fill our hearts, souls, minds and bodies. Overall, our bodies always yearn for more; however, we must learn to channel this lust for more, to seeking God and His word. This is a difficult task to do. Yes! I know but it is a decision we must make. God will give you everything you need but at the right time. We usually want things at our time. It does not work like this.
The energy I have seen people use to plan, prepare and carry out these competitions is amazing. Imagine using at least 20% of all that. Where would your relationship with God be at the moment? Prioritize your life my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Is it worth it? After all the troubles that Rachel went through to win her self-inspired battle against her sister; was it worth it?
As Christians, we focus on the outside; what of the things in the inside? Did Rachel recognize that Jacob loved her so much? Did she confide in God or in her husband, Jacob? This is because she felt she could find a solution on her own! She thought she knew what she was doing! We always do that as Christians. We think that some things we can handle them without God’s intervention. That is not true!! God has told us to come with Him with everything (no matter how small it is). Do we do that?
He just wants us (His children) to trust that He is there for us and can take care of all our needs. Today’s message is not one to make you feel sad or judges, but to show you that there is hope. It is not too late to change! God is ready to forgive, and He wants you to know that. Are you willing to take this slow (but sure) journey to learning to depend and trust God fully? I encourage you to do so. I am on that journey now and I am learning about how fulfilling and rewarding it is. God bless!
The prayer below is for anyone who has been living a life fueled by comparison, jealousy or hatred. You are tired of feeling this way and want to be liberated. Your liberation is found in Christ, and He is waiting for you to make that decision to draw nearer to Him. I encourage you to make that decision. Say this prayer truthfully and sincerely:
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.
Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;
Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.
Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.
I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!
Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
