Topic: The significance of the name
Bible Reading: Genesis 32
Memory verse: Genesis 32:28
Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? I hope you had a wonderful week and are excited for the weekend! I am! What of you? Today, we end our journey through Genesis 32; with a message titled, “The significance of the name.” This message is a very short and direct one. I pray that the Holy Spirit speaks to you through today’s dose of Biblical medicine.
From Genesis 32:28, we see that Jacob’s name was changed to Israel because of his struggle with God and man- which he overcame. God had plans for Jacob; his name was a factor in his blessing. This goes to show how important your name is. This is because your name speaks many things. This has an effect spiritually and physically.
That is why we must be careful, when naming our children. I see some people have been named after their parents favourite celebrity actor or musician. That is ok! What character traits does the person possess? How does the person live their lives? Would you like your child to live the same way that actor or musician is living his/her life? We must all think about this very carefully. It is a very important.
How about the names we call others? Do you know it has an effect on them? Yes, it does! Our words have power. Whatever we say has the power to create things in the spiritual, which then happens in the physical. If you call a person “dumb” or “stupid” or any other name, you realise that soon after the person begins to act in that particular way!
Know that a name can make or break a person destiny! Yes it can! Thanks to God’s unconditional love for us; He changes our name for us (just so we claim our destiny). Is that not awesome! That is why God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. God knew that Jacob was going to be the “Chosen One.” He needed to change his name to stop any contentions against him. Israel was the name given to God’s people. Do you think that is a coincidence? Think about it?
Another person who had their name changed was Abram. God changed it to Abraham. Why? Well, his name had to coincide with his destiny. Abraham was anointed. He was the father of many nations. He had to be called in the same light. The name-change reinforced Abraham’s destiny and God’s promise to him- to be the father of many nations. God knew that as people called out the name Abraham, they were calling His promise to fruition. Hallelujah!
I am not here to judge anyone or make anyone feel bad about their name! As a child of God, you have the power to change the status quo because you have the power of God backing you. This message is specifically for someone out there! God has been trying to reach out to you about this issue! I pray that you are blessed by this message. Hallelujah!!
The prayer below is for anyone feeling lost and not knowing the direction your life should take. God is waiting with open arms to direct you and guide your path. Just make the decision to follow Him and say this short prayer.
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.
Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;
Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.
Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.
I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!
Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
