The Genesis Story: Part 113- Respect & Honour for One Another!

Topic: Respect and Honor for one another!

Bible Reading: Genesis 33

Memory Verse: Genesis 33:3

He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? This week, we start a new journey through Genesis chapter 33. Are you excited for another journey? I am. I hope you are too. This week we are going to explore some character traits that have been represented in Jacob and Esau’s reunion. We would begin by looking at Respect and Honor for one another! Let us get right into it.

From the memory verse above, we see that when Esau approached Jacob’s camp, Jacob was quick to bow down as Esau approached him. This is a sign of respect and of honour. Jacob knew that it was right to do. Just like Jacob, do we know that we must respect and honour one another as Christians?

This is very important. First of all, we must treat people in this way because one you give someone respect and honour; they will do same to you. In Matthew 7:12a, the Bible says, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you...” How do you think Esau would have responded to Jacob if Jacob had met him armed men ready to fight him, Esau?

How do we want to be respected and honoured, yet, we do not do same for others? That is very selfish and not from God. Philippians chapter 2 verse 3 tells us this, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” This verse does not only condemn the selfish character of man; it gives us an important key to helping us (humans) to honour and respect one another. That is to have HUMILITY. We would be looking at this a bit more below.

In the same vein, if you treat God with the necessary respect and honour due Him; He will reward you! God will bless you immensely because you show that you fear Him and that you love Him. How would you respect and honour others if you do not love them? It will be a very difficult task to do. We show love to God because He first loved us. God honours us because we first honour Him. God respects us because we first respect Him. It is a two-way thing; even in our relationship with Christ.

Through this, we see the most important factor to honouring and respecting people. It is called LOVE. In John 13:34-35, the Bible says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you live one another.” Love is the underlying factor to many and all things we do as Christians. It is through love that we would be humility. Humility is the key to honour and respect others.

In Ephesians 4;2, the Bible says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” From this verse we are told that when we have love we would be humble, gentle and patient. This is very true. We see that in 1 Corinthians 13; where love is defined.

With love, you would be able to be blinded by people’s faults and mistakes; this allows you to be humble and honour or respect them. So Christians, love one another. Love is the basis of our Faith. We are alive today because of God’s love for us. We are sin-free because of God’s love for us. We have everything we have because of God’s love for us. So have love in your hearts and share this love by honouring and respecting one another. Hallelujah!

It does not matter if you have to be the bigger person by spreading the love first. God will bless you for doing so. It may take time for people acknowledge the love you show them. Be patient! They will come around! Hallelujah!

The prayer below is for anyone who has live a love-less life. God is love. He is waiting to spread some love into your life. Make the decision and come to Him today by saying this short prayer.

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.

  2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.

I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!

  • Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
