The Genesis Story: Part 131- Are you wicked in God's sight?

Topic: Are you wicked in God’s eyes?

Bible Reading: Genesis 38

Memory Verse: Genesis 38: 7

But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? Today, I know that God is about to give me some good news. I know that I will be celebrating and jubilating at the end of the day! What of you? What do you believe God will do for you today? Claim it, believe it and take charge of it! Hallelujah!

Today, we are going to explore an interesting theme titled “Are you wicked in God’s sight?” We will be using Genesis 38 verse 7 as a guide into this message. Which kinds of people do you think are wicked in God’s sight? Do you know that the punishment for being wicked is death? Let us take a look at what the Holy Spirit has in store for us today!

From the verse, it shows that Er’s death was due to the fact that God found him to be very wicked. The question is “What makes you wicked in God’s eyes?” Well, in this verse, God was trying to establish the fact that Er was very sinful. Sin is anything or everything that does not please God. This includes lying, stealing, hatred, disobedience, evil thoughts, etc. When you sin, you are wicked in God’s eyes because He knows that you have put yourself and the enemy before Him. That is really bad! To have God turn a blind eye towards your life. You and I don’t want to live such a life. I would encourage you to always stick with God. No matter what! Even if the ways of the flesh seem simpler and easier.

From Romans chapter 6 verse 23, the Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Though this was written in the New Testament; we see its foundations (physically) in the Old Testament- just like in the verse we are exploring at the moment.

You might say “Well, I know this very evil man. He is still going on hurting people’s lives and sinning against God. If the Bible says, the wages of sin is death…; why is he still hurting people?” Your question is very valid. Death in this context is both physical and spiritual. When someone continues to sin against God and is said to be wicked, s/he is dead spiritually. Now that is very serious! When you are dead spiritually; you will be dead physically as well. Why? Well, everything that takes place in the spiritual realms; happens in the in physical realms as well. Physical death could come in many forms! It could be death whereby the person passes away. It could mean illnesses, loss of businesses, etc.

Now, it is time for you reflect over your life. Are you living your life the way God wants you to? Are you following His ways and obeying His instructions? Well, if you know you are faltering; it is not too late to get back to God! God is a very forgiving and Faithful God. Once you are sincere about your faults and ask Him to help you; He will. The question you have to reflect on is “Are you wicked in God’s eyes?” God Bless!

The prayer below is for anyone who is living a life full of regret. The prayer is for anyone who is not happy about how his/ her life has been. God is here to help you and rescue you. He is ready to forgive you and give you ‘new’ life!

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family.  Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.

  2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.

I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!

  • Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
