Topic: Forgive God!
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! I pray that your morning is off to a great start! Yesterday, we focused on one aspect of forgiveness; which was forgiveness of ourselves. Today, we are going to look at another aspect of forgiveness. We are going to look at forgiving God! Yeah! I can imagine all the thoughts that are running through your mind at this moment! Well, take a few minutes and let’s see what the Holy Spirit has for us today!
As you know rightly, God is never wrong! God has never sinned or will never sin. His ways and works are perfect; just like we are told in Deuteronomy 32:4. So the question is: “For a God who does no wrong, why is it important that we forgive him?” That is a very good question. Well, we, as man, do not understand God’s ways of doing things. Due to this lack of knowledge and understanding in God’s ways; we tend to blame him for the wrong things that happen to us!
As humans, we always want to understand and know everything that happens to us. When we sometimes do not have the answers that we want to hear (or in some cases, we do not have the answers at all), we turn our anger and frustration towards God. This is sometimes the only way we know how to deal with a situation; and this is wrong.
For many people, the begin to resent God and go far away from Him because they know what God has said to them and the exact opposite happened. There are certain aspects of my life whereby God has spoken to me or shown me how the end looks like! However, things did not end up the way God had said. This has happened on two major occasions recently. After the situation, I felt like God had betrayed me! I am sure many of you have felt this way before! But, I was quick to blame God (which we all are). Some questions that ran through my mind were; “God, I trusted you and this is how you treated me?” “Another was, God I have given you what I have and all I have! Do I deserve this?” I know a lot of people who have thought like this before. Immediately an incident happens (as human as we are) our first reaction (at times) is to blame God.
Maybe your questions where not that long! It could simply be “God, why me?” in one point in our lives or another, each of us think this way. Some people are able to quickly bounce back, and others are not!
We forget the reason why we go through these situations. God might have shown you or told you something; but that is the end goal. Before you get there, God has to prepare you and nurture you; so that you are fully- equipped for what He has in-store for you! Look at Joseph’s life, God took him through the pit, to Potiphar’s house and prison; just to train him to be governor of Egypt. Your end story would be great. Do not let these negative emotions get the best of you. You must always keep your focus on God. He would never leave you. Count each obstacle as a miracle because you know God is with you. Most importantly, know that you are a step closer to the place God is taking you! Hallelujah!
Now, we are going to explore how to forgive God. Remember that we are not forgiving God for the wrong He has done! (He is never wrong and cannot do wrong!) But we are letting go of the anger, frustration and resentment we have towards God. The process of letting go of all these emotions is forgiving God. Yup! We must do this to help our relationship with God. If we keep all these negative emotions; we would not be able to listen to God words nor follow His ways!
The first thing to do in this situation is to let all these emotions out. You can cry! You can shout! You can scream! You can write! Any way you can express your feelings, kindly do! It is important that you do! After this, say a prayer to God! Talk to him like you would talk to a friend/sibling/ parent who has offended you! Tell him how the situation went, how the situation made you feel, why you have all these negative emotions against him. See, prayer is a conversation with God. There are times where we must relate to God in this way as well. Once you are done, just say “God I let all these emotions go! I understand that I went through all that because you were training me. Thank you for never given up on me! Amen!”
God richly bless you for letting go of all those emotions and re-focusing on God. Hallelujah!
Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
