Topic: Genesis Story: Part 138 – Trust is Earned!!
Bible Reading: Genesis 43
Verse for the day: Genesis 43: 8-10
Then Judah said to Israel his father, “Send the boy along with me and we will go at once, so that we and you and our children may live and not die. I myself will guarantee his safety; you can hold me personally responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life. As it is, if we had not delayed, we could have gone and returned twice.”
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you doing? It has been about two weeks since the last message was posted! I have struggled, over the past few weeks, to post messages due to the busy schedule I have. By God’s Grace, I am getting a hang of it. A special thanks goes out to everyone who contacted us during the recent break. God richly bless you!
In today’s message, we would be continuing the Genesis Story. This week, we would be focusing on Genesis chapter 43. Are you ready for this exciting journey? I am and I know that you are ready! Let us get right into it.
From previous chapters (and the said chapter), we know that Joseph kept one of his brothers in Egypt. He told the others to return with their brother, Benjamin, when they needed to purchase more food. Israel had lost faith in his sons; his son. Benjamin was dear to him! He could not fathom having to lose a precious son (once again- as Israel though that Joseph was dead).
Just like Israel, God loses faith in us- His children! God has provided all the things we need to live our lives, however, there are times we fall short. When we do so, God is very heart-broken. We have broken the trust and respect He has for us! At times, this is the reason why we do not get immediate answers or blessings from God! Yes, God is faithful and loving; anyone who calls on Him would be answered. However, this mistrust could serve as a blockage to your answer/ breakthrough. Like every blockage, we must clear the way…
To clear the way, you must earn God’s trust once again. This is done by consistently living a life for God. You must serve him diligently. With this, one can slowly earn God’s trust. Apart from this, one can make ultimate-decisions. These decisions are short-term events that occur which force us to take charge of a particular situation. This is what we see in Genesis 43:8-10. We make covenants and promises to God. These act as mediums to earn God’s trust.
In Genesis 43:8-10, Judah offered to take full responsibility over Benjamin’s life. This is almost like the price/ guarantee of his brother’s life. In the same way, when we make covenants or promises to God, we state the price/cost of what we want. We earn God’s trust through this medium because it is the quickest and surest way to get humans accountable for their actions. God can trust that if He provides your need, you would handle it well (and abide by His ways) and be accountable for your actions.
Today’s message is a very short one! The aim of the message was to inform you that just like trust is earned amongst our earthly parents; we must earn the trust of our Heavenly Father (no matter our age). God is faithful and just. Though He provides our every need, you must earn God’s trust. This would merit a stronger and better relationship between both parties.
A lot of the time, we treat our relationship with God as a strange or complicated one. What we fail to realize is that all that we experience physically in our various relationships is similar to what we experience in our relationship with God. The sooner we realize this, the beneficial it is for us all. Always remember that God created us in His image. All our humanly mannerisms, emotions, feelings, etc. (except sin) are like God- Genesis 27. Try to see your relationship with God in this light! You will see how your relationship would grow.
