Bible Reading: Genesis 19
Memory Verse: Genesis 19: 3
But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Hope you had a nice rest. Remember to spend some time thanking God for everything He has done for you. Praise His Name and Rejoice, for He is alive. Yet another day is here; we are taking a closer look at Genesis chapter 19, verse 3; under theme of kindness and hard work as the nature of human beings. Let us get right into it.
In verse 3, we are told that Lot insisted on inviting the two angels to his home and inviting them to stay the night. We are also told that he prepared a meal for them and they ate it. From this, there are two things Lot did out of his heart. He welcomed them into his home and he also made them feel comfortable by preparing food for them.
Some people would say that because they were angels, he did all he did. Well, here is a question. How would he have known these two persons were angels when they looked like two ordinary men? Would you have been able to recognize them as angels? Well, I know I wouldn’t have; until I spoke to them. From this, we can safely conclude that Lot did all he did out of his heart. It was part of his nature. He is most likely someone who welcomes foreigner to his home and make them feel comfortable. This could possibly be a reason why he was at the entrance of the city when the two angels met him.
Lot was a hospitable person and he did not hesitate to welcome them. From verse one, we see that immediately he saw them, he ran to them and bowed down to the ground. He was sympathetic to their weariness and tiredness from a long trip.
Just like Lot we are to be kind and warm to our fellow brothers and sisters from far and near. We should not hesitate to help them out or be comfortable with them. This is a quality God expects us to have as a nature. For you and I to get to this point, we must make a resolution in our hearts and in our minds to be kind and warm others. Just like the commandment says, “Do unto others what you want others to so unto you.” You and I must consciously and conscientiously decide to be kind. Most importantly, ask God and the Holy Spirit to help.
We see from verse 3 that Lot prepared a meal for them and baked bread without yeast for them. By doing this, Lot worked in ordered to make them feel comfortable. He did this wholeheartedly. Nowadays, Christians have a lot of expectations when they do something for someone. You would hardly find someone who wants to work at an office free-of-charge; just to gain knowledge. Any and every amount of work done has some sort of expectations. This is wrong. We are to learn to work wholeheartedly and with no expectations and no returns. The most appalling example is found in offices all around the world. Employees are not taking the initiative to do their work because they believe that they would not have any returns in it. This is very wrong. Why do we act this way as Christians? It is very sad, I must say. We must strive hard to change this mentality of ours.
Are you kind and hard-working by nature? If not, are you willing to have these qualities? If yes, are you prepared to take it to the next level? Be truthful to yourself and answer these questions. Go to God with your answers and He will be the best person to help you. Hallelujah!
If you are reading this, and you would like to be a part of a family that pushes you to be the best version of you; that pushes you to have positive qualities and attributes, then you make pray this short prayer sincerely.
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of
