Topic: Let go off all the idols/gods!
Bible Reading: Genesis 35
Memory verse: Genesis 35:2
So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes…”
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! We have come to the middle of the week! How has your week been so far? Mine has been wonderful. God has been very faithful. I give Him all the Glory, Honor and Adoration! Trusting and Believing in Him is not a mistake! I will encourage each and every one of you to continue to diligently seek Him. He will reward you in many folds. More than you can imagine! Well, moving on; Are you ready for today’s message! I am. I am very excited. Let us get right into it!
From the verse we are looking at, we see that Jacob instructed the people in his household to get rid of all their idols and gods. It is not possible to follow God or enter his land for you if you still have gods or idols. Many of you may think that this is unreasonable. You may say, “But I have given my life to Christ. I have no idols/ gods that I worship!” But many of us still do!
In this context, your god/idol is anything or anyone that takes up a lot of your time, attention and thoughts. This could be social media or your car or even your children. These are the things or people that distract us from spending more time with God. To tell you the truth. I suffer from the same this with social media. But I know that we can overcome this with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Today, this message is for you and I to know that God requires us to let go of our idols and look up to Him. When we are able to do so; He will open many doors for us. The question is how can we do this?
Well, first of all, you must sit yourself down and identify the idols/gods in your life. Then take it in to prayer; seeking the Holy Spirit’s help to overcome the addiction/ dedication to them (the idols/gods). Then we must listen to God for His direction on how to get rid of these idols/gods. During this process, you must let go of this attachment to these things/ feelings. Slowly allocate time for Bible Reading or prayers at times that you have identified, you waste.
This is a difficult journey. Some people have been with these idols/gods for a number of years. It is difficult to change a habit, but not an impossible journey. God has equipped us with everything we need to succeed in this journey. You just have to make that decision to allow Him to guide you. Plus, consistency and dedication.
So, today’s message is pretty straight-forward and direct. God is telling us to “Let go off all the idols/gods.” Hallelujah! Think about this phrase carefully. Do you think that you are yet to do so? Or do you think you have been able to conquer this battle? This is for you to truthfully answer these questions. It is by choice; God is not forcing us to let go of the idols/gods.
The prayer below is for anyone who has for (a long time) tried to break free from idols/ gods. God is waiting for you with open arms. Just make that decision:
Dear Lord,
I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.
Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;
Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.
Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.
I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out. Hallelujah!
Have a wonderful day and let God inspire you!
