The Genesis Story: Part 44- The world versus GOD!

Bible Reading: Genesis 13

Memory Verse: Genesis 13: 10 & 11

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plan of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the graden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the corner.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you doing? How was your week? Mine was great! How about your week? The weekend is here, I am very excited, hope you are excited too!

Today, we are continuing with the Genesis Story. This post is Part 44 and we will be looking at Genesis 13 verse 10 and 11; on the topic: “The world versus God”. Let us go right in…

At this point of the Genesis Story, the herdsmen of Abram and the herdsmen of Lot were arguing and fighting. Abram told Lot to choose between the land to the left and the land to the right; so, they separate to end all the quarrels and arguments.

From verse 10, we are told that Lot fixated his eyes on the land that was pleasing to the eye. It was well- watered. It was green and was very beautiful. Lot made the choice to settle in this land; leaving his uncle, Abram, with the land that was looking quite bare. We all know what happened to Lot after he made this decision- things did not go as he had hoped or planned. Abram’s land began to yield more than Lot’s, amongst other things. (You can complete Genesis 13 to read a bit more into what happened).

From these verses, God is trying to tell us something. Sometimes, we (humans) follow the ways of the flesh and of this world. A lot of the times, we see something beautiful or perfect (in our eyes) and we are willing to compromise all our values and beliefs to go for these things. No matter the cost. As Christians, we forget that everything happens in God’s time; we like for the time to be now.

Like Lot, we are sometimes fooled by the outward appearance of these things because of our flesh. These things are not the right things, or the thing God wants for us. They are usually masks of the enemy. The enemy presents things that are like- Christ but aren’t. as Christians, we must take our time and ask for God’s to know what decisions to make. We can do this through prayer or reading the Bible.

Today’s message is a very short one. I write this message to always seek God in every step of the way. Imagine if Lot had done that? He might have been a blessed man. Do not follow the fame, the fortune and the power, they are just masks of the enemy. He is always scheming against God’s children; he will like for you to be in his trap.

That is why it is important that as Christians we are able to humble ourselves in Christ. We must try to subdue of flesh to the will of God. This would prevent us from falling to the ways of this world or the schemes of the enemy. God bless!

In God’s own time, you will receive all your heart desires. Do not rush to get them and leave God behind. For a life without Christ is no life at all. Have a good day!

If you want to give up a life of chasing the things of this world and you want to enter God’s family, kindly repeat this prayer.

Dear Lord,
