The Genesis Story: Part 59- The significance and importance of the meaning of a name!

Bible Reading: Genesis 17

Memory Verse: Genesis 17: 5

No longer will you be called Abram, your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing? Hope you are having a wonderful week so far? Today, we are continuing The Genesis Story with Part 59. In today’s post, you and I would be looking at Genesis 17 verse 17; focusing on the topic of Names.

In the verse 17, we see that God changes Abram’s name to Abraham. If you read the verse before, you will find out that this comes right after God made a covenant with Abram that He (God) will make him the father of nations.

Names are very important to a person. Names can make a person or break a person. Why? Every name has a meaning and a spiritual backing in it. The name you have been given is what you will be. Look at the names of all the Prophets of God, their names signified what they were.

This is why it is very important to seek God when naming a child. A child may be destined for great things; the name of the child can change this. We see in this instance that God had to change Abram’s name to Abraham to suite his destiny. God is changing some people’s names to suite their destinies. Amen!

This is very important because your name attributes to your character and your personality. How? Once you were born and your name was called out; in the Spiritual, the name’s attributes and meaning were bestowed upon your life. As you grow, you realise that you begin to act and behave like your name suggests. It is important what your name is; or more importantly, the name you allow people to refer to you by.

it is not the best to give people bad names. Once a name is used to call someone, not only does it have physical effects (of the person becoming sad) but spiritual effects. The name that has been bestowed on the person, holds a lot of power. As you keep calling the person this name, you are creating things in the person’s life that is attributed to the name. You will notice that once you give someone a name, in a few months, the person begins to act that way. This is because you have created the person to be that way. Everything that happens in the physical has taken hold in the spiritual.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, I would urge you to be careful of how you call others. Do not join friends who tease or bully people by calling them names. Instead, speak to them and help them to understand the effects of what they are doing.

If you have been blessed by this message and you what your name to have a great meaning; kindly say this short prayer with all sincerity. By saying this prayer, you acknowledge you are sinner and you become a child of God.

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board. You can now be exempted from the wrath of the enemy and of God. Not only do you experience this, but your whole family as well. Wow! Isn’t the God you serve so cool? He is. Not only do you enjoy this, but you enjoy other blessings God has in store for His children.
