Daniel's Dose: Adventure 27- Do people have a say in your relationship with God?

Topic: Daniel’s Dose: Adventure 27- Do people have a say in your relationship with God?

Bible Reading: Daniel 8

Memory Verse: Daniel 8:27b (NKJV)

I was astonished by the vision, but no one understood it.

Today, the Holy Spirit wants to draw our attention to people around us! Do people’s comments or reactions affect your relationship with God? Are people’s opinions important in your walk with God? Well, these are very important questions we would be looking at today! Are you ready for today’s adventure? I am! Let us get right into the message!

People are important in our lives! We need people in almost everything we do! Where do we draw the line of people’s influence(s) on our lives? Honestly, we all want to be congratulated and/ or appreciated from time to time; especially when it comes to our Christian walk! We, sometimes want to be recognized for something we do or have done! The question is, “Do we really need it?” “Do we have to search for people’s opinions/ thoughts on our relationship with God?”

These are very important questions! When we are in a relationship with God, our eyes must be fixed on him! In your relationship with God, both parties determine the pace and intensity of the relationship; no other persons! why? This is because everyone’s relationship is different. Each individual has a unique combination of gifts, character traits and behaviors. God relates to everyone differently; as everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. One person might experience something in their walk with God; another person might not experience the same thing! This does not mean one person’s relationship is better than another.

It is important to communicate with God (and the Holy Spirit) to know what is going on well and what is not going on well in your relationship. Relying solely on the comments/ opinions is not helpful because they do not understand your relationship God. People’s comments/ opinions, are most of the time, based off their own relationship with and some assumptions they have about God! When you follow these, it will lead you astray! You will be following someone else’s rules to a relationship with God; who asks us to come to Him as we are!

In Daniel 8, we see that after Daniel had the vision, he went about doing his normal activities. He did not go around looking for people’s comments/ opinions because he knew that they would not understand it! Most people will not understand his reactions to his vision because they have not experienced such before. There are many Christians that may not have experienced what you have, in your relationship with God! God reveals things to us, based on our level of intimacy with Him; and, our strengths and weaknesses.

Don’t get me wrong! There are some people who may advise you on your general approach to your relationship with God. In such cases, you can decide to take the advice (or not). These people encourage you to spend more time in His Word or communicating with Him. They do not tell you their opinions or comment on your experiences; unless you ask them to! You need such people around you to encourage you at times, to keep moving on! Sometimes, the journey can be very difficult.

Today, I would like you (before you sleep) to reflect on your relationship with God! Do not focus solely on Him? Do you let others dictate/ influence your relationship with God? Think about it and make the necessary changes! To do that, you must make a decision on the course of your relationship with God.

Prayer Points:

  1. Ask God to reveal Himself to you.

  2. Ask God to prepare your heart.

  3. Ask for healing in your heart and your mind.

  4. Ask that you subdue your flesh and earthly desires.

  5. Ask for the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

  6. Ask for help from the Holy Spirit.

  7. Ask for the desire to learn more about God.

End with a time of praise and worship!

Today’s prayer:

Dear Lord,

I thank you for my life. I thank you for giving me another beautiful day. I ask that you guide me and protect me. I pray that I will choose you in every situation that I face. And that my life will be a testimony and an example to many that I have Christ living in me. Thank you, Lord, for sending your son to die on the cross and wipe my sins away. I lift your name high for you are Alpha and Omega. Amen!

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!

The prayer below is for anyone who does not know God or maybe has been apart from God for a while. God is here to pour His favor over your life. All you have to do is call out to Him. Make that decision today!

Dear Lord,

I come to you today as a sinner. I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son and He came on to this earth to die for my sins. Dear Lord, let your Son come and fill me. Lord, I ask that He cleanses me off my sins. I am ready to stand for you and profess your Name. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

If you repeated this prayer with all the sincerity of your heart, congratulations!! You are now a part of God’s family. Welcome to the greatest family ever. Heaven is jubilating on your arrival. Your fellow brothers and sisters are also excited to have you on board.

Being a child of God is a wonderful thing. The road might not always be easy, but God is with you each and every step of the way. Guiding you, helping you and encouraging up. You will never regret this decision; I can assure you of that. Two things I would recommend for you to do are;

  1. Get yourself a Bible (in a version you understand) and meditate on it day and night. In Joshua 1:8, we are told that when you meditate on the Word day and night, you will be prosperous and successful.

  2. Find a Bible- believing church to attend and fellowship with other Christians. This would help you grow spiritually.

I am excited that you made this decision. Welcome! If you would like some help or more understanding into anything, you can leave a message (adding your email address) and I would be willing and happy to help you out!
